Head of The Department of Systematic and Cultural Musicology at The Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw
Poland is a country that suffered tremendous archival losses during the Second World War. This also applies to music collections. All the more important is the unique phonographic collection of the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which was based on the materials collected during the Folklore Music Collecting Campaign. Supplemented during musicological student camps and field trips of employees of the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, this collection is undoubtedly the most valuable Polish collection of traditional music. But my greatest joy is that it didn’t stop there – these archives are opened, shared and networked with other collections, creating a priceless treasure of the musical legacy of previous generations.
